Multi-user Installation with Pervasive.SQL Client1. Install the database engine on the server. It's not necessary to define the database. 2. On each workstation, using either
Notepad or Start/Run/Sysedit enter the following line into the autoexec.bat: 3. On each workstation, using either Notepad or Start/Run/Sysedit, enter the following line into the Config.sys: Files = 250. For NT/2000/XP workstations, skip this step. (This command won't take effect until the workstation is rebooted). 4. Unzip the installation zip file onto the root of your network drive. Don't change the location, use Smt. (The Smt folder must be installed to the Root Directory, e.g. <d>:\smt, “<d>” = network drive letter, to function correctly). Note: Please remember to check the .dta files in the smt\data directory after you have extracted them to make sure they are not flagged as 'read only'. 5. Make sure IPX is running on the server. Manually set the IPX frame type on the server and the client to be the same. If on NT/2000, be sure to set the internal network number to non-zero. For NT/2000, you can access these settings by right-clicking network neighborhood and going to properties/protocols tab. If on a Novell server not already running IPX/SPX, see the network documentation appropriate for your version of Novell to make these changes. 6. Install the Pervasive windows client on each workstation that will be accessing the Summit system. 7. For NT/2000 or XP** workstations, skip to "Launching Summit, Step 2." Otherwise, go to Start/Programs/Pervasive/Pervasive SQL 2000/Utilities, and copy BtrBox95 to the C:\windows\Startmenu\programs\startup folder. This utility must be running before opening the MS-DOS prompt. (The BtrBox95 can also be found in the C:\PVSW\Bin folder) 8. You can set up a desktop icon and a batch file to automate launching Summit. The batch file must initiate the Bdosstub utility every time Summit is opened.
Launching Summit1. Go to Start/Programs/MS-DOS Prompt. Execute the Bdosstub utility: C:\PVSW\BIN\Bdosstub. DOS should return a “successfully installed” message. 2. While still in DOS, change directories to the Summit data directory on your server, (e.g. enter, <d>:, then type in CD\Smt\Data). Execute the startup module: \smt\ut\utstart, enter your user number and password. ** XP workstations/clients require a shortcut to \SMT\UT\Utstart. After creation of the shortcut, the shortcut’s properties must be changed to specify the working data set, workstation number, and screen settings. 1) On the Program tab of the shortcut’s properties: a) the Command (Cmd) Line must be entered as follows: <drive>:\SMT\UT\UTSTART <data directory> <workstation number> '<drive>' being the drive on which Summit resides, '<data directory>' being the name of the data directory which you are using, and '<workstation number>' being the unique workstation number you would like to use. b) the Close on exit check box should be checked. 2) On the Screen tab of the shortcut’s properties, the Window radio button should be selected. After starting v2.81 from the shortcut, use Alt+Enter to make the window full screen.

Copy Brequest.* and BreqNT.* from the PVSW\Clients\Dos folder on your server to the Smt\BTI folder on the client workstation. 6. If you want to launch the Summit System from an icon on your desktop, right-click on the desktop, choose new/shortcut. In the “command” field of the shortcut wizard, you can either browse for the smt\ut\utstart file on the server or you can simply type in <d>:\smt\ut\utstart (“<d>” = network drive letter)
Launching Summit1. Double-click the icon created above, or go to Start/Programs/MS-DOS Prompt. Change directories to the Summit data directory on your server, (e.g. enter, <d>:, then type in CD\Smt\Data). Execute the startup module: \smt\ut\utstart, then enter your user number and password.
