Multi-user / Client-Server system

A widely used computer system architecture in which machines designated as servers handle requests from numerous machines designated as clients over a network. This configuration requires a requester module on the client, which communicates with a similar module on the server. Client/server configurations are necessary when controlled sharing of centralized data is required.

Stand alone / Single Workstation System

A terminal or desktop computer for a single user that, independent of a network, possessing sufficient resources to run all aspects of a given application on the one machine.  

Pervasive.SQL (Windows) Client

Pervasive.SQL Windows program that resides on client machines and passes requests from a client application to a Pervasive Server-based engine.

Pervasive.SQL Server Engine

Pervasive Server program that conducts all database transactions and fulfills requests from client machines.

Pervasive.SQL Workstation/Workgroup Engine

Pervasive Workstation program that includes both engine and requester components in one package, allowing full database functionality on a single machine.
