Installation Using Pervasive.SQL
1. Install
the database engine on your PC. It's not necessary to define the database.
2. Using either
Notepad or Start/Run/Sysedit, enter the following line into the Config.sys:
Files = 250. (This command won't take effect until the PC is
rebooted).
3. Unzip the installation zip file onto the
root of your C: drive. Don't change the location, use Smt. (The Smt folder must
be installed to the Root Directory, e.g. C:\smt, to function correctly). Note: Please remember to
check the .dta files in the smt\data directory after you have extracted them to
make sure they are not flagged as 'read only'.
4. For NT/2000/XP workstations, skip
to "Launching Summit, Step 2." Otherwise, go to Start/Programs/Pervasive/Pervasive
SQL 2000/Utilities, and copy BtrBox95 to the C:\windows\Startmenu\programs\startup
folder. This utility must be running before opening the MS-DOS prompt. (The
BtrBox95 can also be found in the C:\PVSW\Bin folder).
5. You can set up a desktop icon and a
batch file to automate launching Summit. The batch file must initiate the
Bdosstub utility every time Summit is opened.
To create a batch
file, open Notepad and type in the following text:
Bdosstub
cd\smt\data
\smt\ut\utstart
Save the file to
your smt folder as smt.bat. To create the shortcut, right-click on the desktop
and choose new/shortcut. In the “command” field of the shortcut wizard, you
must either browse for the smt\smt.bat file or you can simply type in c:\smt\smt.bat.
For the name, enter Summit, then choose an icon. Press Finish.

Launching Summit
1. Double click on the icon created above,
or go to Start/Programs/MS-DOS Prompt. Execute the Bdosstub utility: C:\PVSW\BIN\Bdosstub.
DOS should return a “successfully installed” message.
2. While still in DOS, change directories to the
Summit data directory, (e.g. enter, CD\Smt\Data). Execute the startup module: \smt\ut\utstart,
then enter your user number and password.
